This study presents an academic analysis of the book Thimar al-Qulub fī al-Muḍāf wa al-Mansūb by Abū Manṣūr al-Tha‘ālibī, with a particular focus on the verification and translation of entries related to tribal attributions. The researcher adopted a methodology that combines rigorous textual authentication with precise translation. Qur’anic verses, Prophetic traditions, and Arabic poetic excerpts were included in their original form, followed by comprehensive translations that highlight their intended meanings.
The study further relied on the primary sources in which these texts originally appeared—such as works of Qur’anic exegesis, Hadith collections, and classical poetic diwans—thus imparting a strongdocumentary haracter to the research.
In addition to translation and verification, the researcher provided explanations of obscure vocabulary found in the poetic verses, clarified their linguistic and semantic dimensions, and elucidated the historical and literary background of the texts. Footnotes were added to every page, containing accurate references to sources and scholarly works, bringing the research in line with international standards in classical studies.
This scholarly effort not only highlights the academic value of al-Tha‘ālibī’s contributions but also seeks to bridge the gap between classical texts and contemporary researchers by presenting the material in an authenticated, translated, and well-annotated form. In doing so, it enriches linguistic and literary scholarship and enhances the understanding of the concept of attribution (al-muḍāf wa al-mansūb) within the Arabic literary heritage.
