The article is about the book entitled: Thimār al-Qulūb fī al-Muḍāf wa al-Mansūb by Imām Abū Manṣūr ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl al-Thaʿālibī (d. 429 A.H.). He was great Arabic Islamic Scholar; he wrote a number of valuable books in Arabic. The book is one of the most significant literary works that sheds light on the aesthetic beauty of the Arabic language its eloquent expressions, rich structures, and refined stylistic features. The book explores al-muḍāf (the genitive constructions) and al-mansūb (attributed forms) in Arabic, presenting numerous expressions and phrases with deep cultural and historical meanings. The author enriches the text with literary and poetic citations that add elegance and depth to his discussion.
Imam Thaʿālibī contributed to Urdu language and Literature as we uses mostly Arabic Idioms ,words and terminology in Urdu Language.
The article focusses on explanation of Arabic Edioms ,phrases and terms described in the Book: Thaʿālibī’s Thimār al-Qulūb fī al-Muḍāf wa al-Mansūb. The study analyzes these translation critically of the words .Al-Thaʿālibī adopts a distinctive methodological approach in presenting his material, which can be summarized as follows:
Thematic rather than lexical organization: He does not follow a strict alphabetical order; instead, he arranges the constructs and attributions according to their topics and shared meanings.
Comprehensive referencing: He supports his explanations with evidence from the Qur’an, the Prophetic ḥadīth, and classical Arabic poetry to illustrate the meanings of al-muḍāf and al-mansūb.
Concise and elegant style: Al-Thaʿālibī’s language is characterized by brevity without loss of meaning, which makes the text accessible and engaging for readers.
Semantic precision: The work goes beyond mere lexical explanation, highlighting subtle distinctions between similar words and expressions in both genitive and attributive constructions.
